About Shezad Dawood

Using film, sculpture, and two-dimensional media, Shezad Dawood orchestrates moments of coalescence between disparate systems of knowledge, culture, tradition, and values. His British and Pakistani roots are reflected in his work, which appropriates many ideas from modern European and American aesthetics. A series of sculptures, The Bestower, The Protector, The Judge, and The Majestic (all 2007), incorporating neon, tumbleweed, and aluminum plinths, references both Islam and the American frontier. Dawood was a recipient of the Abraaj Capital Art Award in 2011.
