Siegfried Anzinger, ‘Flucht/Ägypten’, 2011, Galerie Elisabeth & Klaus Thoman

About Siegfried Anzinger

Siegfried Anzinger has a reverence for the painting tradition and a desire to examine new possibilities for the medium. A gestural figurative painter, Anzinger was one of the forerunners of the 1980s movement that espoused a return to representation and myth making, but through expressive and intuitive paint handling and working of the surface. Inwardly focused and concentrating on his own process and progress, Anziger's practice is rigorously perceptual, drawing his subjects from the natural world in a manner reminiscent of Classical painting.
