About Silvina Mamani

As a trained athlete and Iron Woman participant, Silvina Mamani admires conviction, strength, and the infinite potential of the human body, which she is constantly surrounded by in training and competition. Her paintings combine this visual experience with her background in sculpture and her mastery of figurative drawing, ultimately honoring the human form as depicted beautifully in all shapes and sizes. Originally trained as a sculptor, Mamani translates this skill to the flat plane by depicting her figures in two-dimensional settings. Often painting on discarded wallpaper, Mamani prefers this surface for its smooth texture and the recycled, found element of the material, (which she originally discovered in heaps outside a factory in her Queens neighborhood.)
