About Souther Salazar

Souther Salazar’s whimsical paintings depict a fantastic alternate universe that seems both odd and familiar, abstract and real. Embracing chance, accident, and stream-of-consciousness in his working process, Salazar creates images full of unusual characters and juxtapositions. Paintings like How We Love to Have Other People Love Things Through Our Eyes (2010) bring together flying cats, cars with faces, houses shaped like heads, and boats on legs. Salazar hopes that his enigmatic narratives will prompt viewers to let their own imaginations wander.
