Makers’ Mark: The 2014 MAD Biennial Opens its Doors to New York’s Top Creatives
Red plastic Lego box containing laser-cut black paper ants.
From the artists: William and I shared the same bedroom growing up in St. Louis. One day, we pulled a red LEGO box out from underneath our beds, opened it and thousands of black carpenter ants poured out of it. We both screamed, “MOM!!!!” That was the beginning of ant infestations in our lives. Our other brother recently said, “I still have that LEGO box!” This work reinvents that memory using that original LEGO box with over 50,000 laser-cut paper ants trailing out of it.
