On the roof of Steven's Chicago atelier he relief carves solid blocks of ice and pours in molten wax. The wax reacts to the low temperature of the ice and shrivels. Once the wax is cooled and excavated, he processes the mould for bronze casting. Due to the burnout process of melting the wax away prior to casting the bronze into a ceramic shell, each piece is unique.
