About Sujin Oh

Sujin Oh transforms photos of celebrities found online and in magazines into hyperrealistic oil paintings in which everything from individual strands of hair to skin pores becomes visible through Oh’s meticulous brushstrokes—to unsettling effect. Oh says that her art does not adhere to a particular aesthetic point of view; rather, she believes the aesthetic value lies in her process, which shares similarities with that of Richard Prince’s re-photographs for the way in which they move “an image from its place of origin into one of [her] portraits,” as she says, redefining it in the process.
