Through the artist’s continuous artistic experiments, Sung Won aims to represent serenity in congeries of beings to answer fundamental questions about homogenization of cultural, ecological, or geological process in the flow of time. The artist seeks to evoke the congeries of heterogeneous beings in emotional space by employing dynamic images of organic shapes. Abstracting organic / geological shapes from her own personal records, she creates life forms floating in a universe, a spatio-temporal construction with infinite layers of such beings. As the layers accumulate, the meaning of each layer emerges and finds a new integration, pointing to a universal synthesis. The organisms floating in the universe interact with a dynamic trajectory linking past, present, and future. In the congeries of being, the individual heterogeneities, such as individual / cultural identities, become a part of an inseparable whole. At the same time, they conserve their meanings, actively interacting with the homogeneous whole.
