Susanna Vapnek
Growing up in California, Susanna Vapnek was mesmerized by wildfire season and the way the colors of the air, sky and sun shifted and glowed as fires raged. Her expressionistic works uses wildfires’ horror and surreal beauty to fuel her paint, charcoal and ink landscapes and portraits. Sinister but somehow sweet, Vapnek’s visions are familiar and unsettling. Vapnek received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York, and has held residencies at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Oberlin College, and Norfolk Summer School of Music and Art, Yale University. She has exhibited widely across the U.S.
