Carretilleras sobre el puente internacional Simon Bolivar (Porters on the international bridge Simon Bolivar), 2018

The Venezuelan crisis has generated an exodus towards neighboring countries. On the bridge that crosses the Táchira River connecting the cities of Cúcuta and San Antonio, the occupation of the so-called „Carretillero“ is thriving. The term describes people dedicated to carry goods acquired in Colombia to Venezuela by crossing the bridge. This occupation is carried out by Venezuelans and was first executed exclusively by men. In recent months, due to the lack of employment and the increasing socio-economic crisis, women have more and more taken this occupation as well. Focusing on this specific situation, the artist invited the respective women, who were operating in different parts of the area called „La Parada“ next to the Simon Bolivar Bridge, to carry out an action that consisted of lining their working equipment - the wheelbarrow - to form a line on the bridge. The action was done on 3 days in a row and lasted 3 minutes. Cúcuta, Colombia Color print
