About Theodoros Stamos
Theodoros Stamos is notable for his early use of color to explore possibilities of abstraction and form in painting. Filled with biomorphic and geologic shapes, his paintings are documents of emotional responses to the light, mood, and color of certain exotic landscapes and experiences. Stamos was influenced by colleagues such as Mark Rothko, merging spirituality with a color layering technique that was an early precursor to the Color Field Painting movement. A lifelong traveler and student of Hellenistic culture, his paintings often reference ancient belief systems.
