About Thomas Eggerer

Thomas Eggerer, a former member of the New York-based collective Group Material, explores the interaction of forms, colors, and gestures in paintings, drawings, and collages that depict groups of people in ambiguous architectural settings. His figures, with undefined faces and broadly applied forms, are more archetypal than individual, as are the often artificially hued, geometric grounds they inhabit, which reference Color Field painting. Eggerer has also cited Philip Guston—who used pink because it was the "wrong" color—as an influence on his color palette.
