Thomas Feuerstein, ‘ATLAS #1’, 2013, Galerie Elisabeth & Klaus Thoman

While in ancient mythology Atlas held up the World, in the painting entitled ATLAS the canvas becomes the carrier and the source of painting. Three-dimensionally it folds up into mountain ranges and forms a fictitious landscape in whose valleys blue algae were bred and by way of conservation have become pigment. Not the brush, the canvas itself brings forth the picture.
