Tim van Cromvoirt, ‘Lungplant’, 2015, Chamber

Designer Tim van Cromvoirt’s “Lungplant” grew out of research on healing environments, spaces designed to be nurturing and therapeutic and, most importantly, to reduce stress. With the increasing disconnection between man and nature, “Lungplant”aims to recreate some of nature’s calming effects through a unique, meditative experience. The “breathing” lamp depicts a landscape with living, luminous organisms and explores the influence this landscape has on its spectators. These gentle inhaling and exhaling motions of the lamp draw attention to the viewer’s own breath, to a calming effect. At once a light installation and meditative tool, “Lungplant” recalls that gestures of simplicity can have a long effect.
