TM Davy is a painters’ painter. The New York based artist’s work ranges from large, elegantly realized portraits of friends and lovers to small and tender studies of form and shadow. Throughout his work, Davy matches careful renderings with ecstatic dry brushing. In Rhododendron (2016), the artist’s brush pulls the flower’s pale petals into our attention against a background of briskly captured leaves and a dark tabletop.
TM Davy is represented by 11R Gallery in New York, where his keenly anticipated solo exhibition opens in January 2017.

T.M. Davy's representational paintings are intimate studies of light, figure, and the interplay between them. His most recent works closely examine candles' illumination of his subjects' faces, a practice which has grown out of his intimately detailed still lifes and portraits. Reminiscent of the Italian Renaissance style, Davy's aesthetic is built on warm realism and close attention to atmosphere and texture.
