Unlike Picasso’s blue period, Tom Judd does not apply much blue tone and color to every canvas, instead, he expressed the atmosphere and mood in blue, a more generic blue. To the viewers, the blue can be more than a color. The exhibition invites viewers to discover what “blue” means to them – a moment, a melody, an emotion, a glance at the past, or a glimpse into the future?

The divers and birds series also represent memories from the summers. Through the visual elements of divers in motion and steadily standing birds, Tom delivers his farewell to youth. His works captured the days when everything was fresh and exciting, meanwhile, celebrated the days when matureness and nostalgia have brought us calm and peace. The “blue” as the background of skies and oceans, is no longer necessarily the sorrow of the past youth and energy, it seems like a quiet mentor looking at us and whispering with wise messages.
