About Torben Ribe

Torben Ribe combines painting with ephemera from consumer culture and utilitarian objects or furniture—pizza menus, a radiator, a coffee pot, a ventilator, a wall socket—to produce idiosyncratic assemblages that evoke domestic spaces. Many of his paintings show signs of decay, such as one in which mold appears to surface along the edges of an abstract, geometric composition resembling wallpaper. In Layers of Blue (2012) a blue bag containing an iPhone magazine hangs on top of a monochrome blue painting, which in turn hangs above a blue square painted directly onto the wall.
