Herakles was the superman of ancient Greece, known better by his Roman name to us, Hercules. His feats of heroic strength are celebrated on this wine jar, which offers strong graphic images, almost like a modern graphic novel or comic book. Greek pots like this were both functional and treasured as works of art.
