Perhaps the most influential artist of the 20th century, Pablo Picasso may be best known for pioneering Cubism and fracturing the two-dimensional picture plane in order to convey three-dimensional space. The hanging scroll showing the deity seated in dhaynasana on a lotus dias backed by a double-nimbus, wearing rich red and orange brocade robes and holding an alms bowl in his left hand and the stem of a single lotus flower in his right, surrounded by various scenes in a mountainous landscape accompanied by gilt Sanskrit inscriptions, mounted on embroidered blue silk and linen within a double gold silk frame, the verso consecrated with a long inscription in sanskrit.
