A wonderful example of ancient Greek jewellery. A Hellenistic gold and glass earring, circa 3rd - 1st Century BC.

Formed of a central rosette decorated with elaborate filigree work, consisting of rows of beaded and twisted wire, the centre with three layers of tiny petals. The central drop with clusters of gold granules and further intricately woven wire. Four fine gold chains hang either side, two with glass beads and two with blossoming lotus flowers.

A superb piece of ancient goldwork.

From the collection of Gawain McKinley (1945 - 1996).
