Utagawa Hiroshige (Andō Hiroshige), ‘Kusatsu’, 1855, Ronin Gallery

Seals: Aratame

Condition: Very good color, impression and state.

Signature: Hiroshige hitsu

Kusatsu teemed with travelers from both the Tokaido and the Nakasendo, a large highway that traversed the mountains between Edo and Kyoto. These two thoroughfares merged between Kusatsu and Kyoto. In this print, Hiroshige turns away from rhythm of life on the shore for the many boats setting sail.
