Utagawa Hiroshige (Andō Hiroshige), ‘Yoshiwara’, 1855, Ronin Gallery

Seals: Aratame

Condition: Very good color, impression and state.

Signature: Hiroshige hitsu

Publisher: Tsutaya Kichizo

Following a devastating tsunami in 1680, Yoshiwara station was rebuilt further inland in 1682. Hiroshige does not allude to this past, concentrating on the towering beauty of Mt. Fuji instead. The ascending birds and gentle clouds emphasize the breathtaking height of the mountain.
