Valentin Ruhry, ‘Untitled (Welle/wave)’, 2012, Christine König Galerie

About Valentin Ruhry

Primarily producing sculptures and site-specific installations, Valentin Ruhry incorporates found objects and vintage materials into his work, and frequently explores outmoded technologies. In his well known work Untitled (Hello World.) (2011), Ruhry presents scores of illuminated rocker switches that form a monochrome field with the words “Hello World” spelled out to one side. Ruhry’s Wandarbeit (2013) comprises a wall-mounted stepladder combined with a single light bulb, forming a minimalist light fixture. “Since I don’t understand much about the technical aspects of most of the equipment that surrounds me, I study their aesthetic qualities,” he has said. “I try to highlight them by placing aesthetics or form before function.”
