Vânia Mignone produces paintings whose dreamlike scenes and open-ended narratives both urge and resist interpretation. As she writes, her works are as much about the process of painting itself as they are about the expression of ideas: “What interests me is PAINTING […] I like it when the unique qualities of painting reveal themselves: the layers of superimposed paint, dripping paint, the weight of the artist’s hand.” Mignone’s hand is apparent in her works, which frequently feature introspective, isolated figures, as well as words and numbers, which attempt to deepen the seduction of her compositions and encourage viewers to try to crack their mysterious codes.
