This large oil on canvas, one of a set of two titled METAMORFOSIS ORGANICA which translates into "Organic Metamorphosis", was chosen to represent Spain at the 1966 Venice Biennale, and it bears the original label (on the back of the canvas) from the exhibition. (see photograph)
Vicente Vela (1931 -2015) was an abstract expressionist Spanish painter and set designer who gained international prominence in the 1970s and 1980s for his distinctive and personal style of abstraction. Vela was chosen to represent Spain in several major International exhibitions and fairs: the XXIX Venice Biennial, Tokyo International, Twenty Years of Spanish Painting in Lisbon, V Bienal de Sao Paulo, Thirteen Current Spanish Painters in Paris. First prize of Drawing in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts of 1970.
