About Victoria Sambunaris
In her large-scale photographs of American landscapes, Victoria Sambunaris captures the grandeur of nature, marked, sometimes subtly, sometimes aggressively, by human intervention. Though her landscapes align with those of the iconic photographers of the American West, like Carleton Watkins and Ansel Adams, they are rarely pristine. Inspired by architecture, Sambunaris explores the relationship of humanity with the land, as she explains: “I am captivated by . . . the idea of how we inhabit our landscapes and what they become as we forge ahead in our development.”
