About Vidvuds Zviedris

Before Vidvuds Zviedris left his native Latvia to study at the College of Art & Design in Detroit, he had received training in academic painting and classical drawing. Zviedris has become recognized for his ability to manipulate color and texture as an abstract painter. Though dominant motifs in his works may vary—from solid lines to soft round forms or angular geometry—the compositions share a common emphasis on layering and depth. Many of his works are inspired by or based on landscapes encountered during his travels; trips to Italy and Yemen have both been the subjects of series of paintings. Zviedris’s practice also includes mixed-media collage, notably in his 2006 series “The Horse That Had a Flat Tire.”
