“Bound” is a tall freestanding steel sculpture in a narrow vertical spiral form. The piece grows from a square banded base, with twisted segments pushing upwards, held captive by a smaller band rotated 45° from the base. The vertical segments continue spiraling up, but remain constricted by a successively smaller band rotated yet again off the previous angle. The spiral finally breaks free upward but not outward. This piece appears ultimately as a contest between the organic curved vertical forms and the geometric horizontal components confining them. The sculpture is protected with a powdercoat finish color – a baked-on industrial coating designed to withstand indoor or outdoor conditions. “Bound” is fully three-dimensional and essentially symmetrical. It is somewhat lightweight, and despite its fluid appearance it is not subject to movement. The base is stable. This compelling sculpture will add a bright center of interest in an indoor or outdoor setting.
