“ORBIT” is an airy mobile sculpture, incorporating welded steel and aircraft cable. Three rings (two violet and the outermost blue) encircle a yellow sphere, all suspended in sequence from an arc-shaped base. The rings are mounted with swivel fittings that allow them to rotate gently to the touch. One might see a subtle suggestion of Earth’s orbit. All parts are protected with a powdercoat finish color – a baked-on industrial coating designed to withstand indoor or outdoor conditions. “ORBIT” is fully three-dimensional and asymmetrical, considering the variable positioning of the components. The suspended rings are subject to induced movement. The sculpture would be appropriate for display on a raised surface near a wall or in an open area viewable from multiple angles. The subdued color scheme is suitable for any inside or outside setting.
