“VERTEBRAL” is a small tension stabilized sculpture, incorporating welded steel and aircraft cable. Seven tapered rectangular yellow elements perch along the length of a slender curved blue spine, each lifted above the spine by a short rod and bound in place by a radiating cable tension array. As the title suggests, the piece has a vertebral structural appearance. All parts are protected with a powdercoat finish color – a baked-on industrial coating designed to withstand indoor or outdoor conditions. “VERTEBRAL” is fully three-dimensional and asymmetrical. The components have no movement. The sculpture would be appropriate for display on a raised surface near a wall or in an open area viewable from multiple angles. The bold color combination adds a dynamic note to any indoor or outdoor setting.
