Vincent Pomilio, ‘Big Little #122’, 2018, Carrie Haddad Gallery

The complex layering is created with different materials such acrylic, wax crayon, pigment, Kolcaustico Venetian plaster, and marble dust. The artist first sections off segments with tape and then applies the mixed media pigment with a trowel. As it's drying he burnishes and carves into the surface to expose the different layers of color underneath. Refined beeswax is then applied to the top which makes the color more brilliant and acts as a sealant.
