Vivien Kohler, ‘Of iron and (Clay Figure 5 detail)’, 2013, Sulger-Buel Lovell

This is one of 9 detailed pieces of the 'Of Iron and Clay' artwork; those 9 pieces are on sale together and not individually.

Moving from Cape Town to Pretoria, my wife and I were surrounded by cardboard for a while. Inspired by this unstable material, I started using it metaphorically in my work. Juxtaposing it with the parquet flooring we all know as home enabled me to create a scenario we all at some point or another will face either internally or physically. The extraordinary ability to hold onto a dream in the midst of uncertain circumstances.
