About Wang Du 王度

Wang Du transforms the disorienting deluge of media images and information into large-scale sculptures he calls “three dimensional images”. His sculptures and site-specific installations use a wide variety of found and constructed objects, the imagery he paints or plasters on them drawn from contemporary life and mass media in an attempt to explore and exaggerate the manipulative and inundating potential of the modern media system. “The ‘visual’ and oral noise of information not only clashes constantly with the inner calm and peace that we naturally require, but it also risks replacing our existence,” he has said. Wang’s 2004 Space Time Tunnel was an immense undulating cylinder made of metal grating and covered in newspapers.
