About Wes Christensen

Wes Christensen’s figurative paintings and drawings are fragments of imagined narratives that come to life through the engagement of the viewer. “My main concern is to communicate clearly to anyone who wants to look, and to invite viewers to interact with the imagery, to engage in a sort of imaginative conversation...In the English tradition of the ‘conversation piece,’ I try to make illustrations for stories not yet written.” His collection of portraits, landscapes, and what he terms “implied narratives” are careful compositions in pencil, watercolor, and gouache—materials that he uses separately or combines into one image. With an emphasis on storytelling, Christensen also pays close attention the works’ formal aspects, such as framing and balance.
