The artists explore the mechanisms of the construction of reality. The mouse interacts with alternative ways of development of its future, as if the science has already found the way to interact with the parallel worlds.
The mouse crawls through the maze, and at each intersection selects only one of the several options - all the rest remain unrealised. We see not only the mouse’s chosen route, but also the missed opportunities, which turn into virtual mice on the screen projection. The virtual mice behave independently and unpredictably. At every intersection, the mouse multiplies into virtual entities. If a virtual mouse collides with the real one in the maze, a wall extends between them. The virtual mice can almost completely fill the entire maze and severely limit the real mouse’s available space. If it is trapped between walls, the mouse ceases to create virtual copies. Even without a choice, it does not lose opportunities.
In this way, the mouse’s unrealised opportunities shape the trajectory and the volume of its living space. Events that occur with the real mouse unfold in the plane of the maze. Events that occur with virtual mice unfold in all directions. They are both past and future events for the real mouse.
The simple structure of the maze reduces the number of possible states of the mouse, which allows us to model the unrealised options for its future and to impact upon the present.

The project was created at the Ural Branch of the NCCA (The National Centre for Contemporary Art) with the support of the ZAART Centre and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation
