About William Binnie

William Binnie is a figural painter of morbid subjects with a touch of humor. His gritty aesthetic draws inspiration from punk and hardcore metal cultures. Binnie is perhaps best known for his paintings of butchered meat, cleaved from various parts of various animals, with vivid details, isolated backgrounds, and dramatic lighting. He also paints scenes featuring decadent piles of slow-roasting meat on large fire pits in a Texas barbecue eatery. Among his most macabre works are his paintings of flame-engulfed houses and the four horsemen of the apocalypse, rendered using bleach on stretched denim. Binnie is also a member of Art Beef, a Texas-based art collective that produces site-specific installations in vacant commercial spaces.
