20th Century American Painter (March 16, 1931 - October 9, 2014)
This contemporary, egg tempura painting on panel, features the drama of the crucifixion; it shows two different viewpoints on the mostly nude figure of Jesus on the cross. On the right hand side, the brown, earth tones of the silhouette sits against a white washed background where graphite, handwritten, cursive script is drawn onto the bottom. The left side shows a zoomed in snapshot representation of the tormented full figured Christ. A red, blood soaked ring of thorns surrounds his head which is looking down upon the wailing figures of the crowded gathered beneath. Artwork includes frame which is handmade by the artist. This is one of the last few pieces, on the open market, in the Sketchbook Series from the William Thomson Family Estate. Artwork includes a brown handmade frame, by the artist.
