About Willy Ramos

Colombian-born Willy Ramos, who lives and works in Valencia, Spain, paints large-scale works in oil paint that explore ideas of nature and celebrate color, rhythm, and light. With their loose, expressionistic brushstrokes, simplified forms, and explosions of bright color, his garden scenes look back to Claude Monet’s “Water Lilies” studies with the added exuberance of Wassily Kandinsky, Henri Matisse and the Fauves, while his lush nudes and sculptural female figures call to mind the Tahitian paintings of Paul Gauguin. In addition to his work as a painter, Ramos is a teacher at the Escuela Bellas Artes in San Carlos, where he himself studied.
