About Yumiko Kinoshita

Although Yumiko Kinoshita studied photography in Paris between 2000 and 2001, her photographs channel a distinctly Japanese sensibility that is indebted to the country’s tradition of oil painting. Kinoshita reveres the natural world, highlighting a palette of soft blues and pinks in her photographs of the sky and cherry blossom trees in bloom. The artist values photography’s ability to capture fleeting moments and create records of ambient conditions that the eye cannot see. While Kinoshita’s prevailing interest is the ephemeral beauty of nature, she also takes portraits, photographing people with the same delicate sensibility that she brings to her other work.
