Yvonne Estrada
MD417016 B&W, 2016

Yvonne Estrada is known for her mixed-media drawings and paintings combining expressively abstract and hard-lined geometry. Estrada’s motifs borrow from Modernist masters, while simultaneously alluding to architectural and cellular forms. Her compositions are built up through improvisation stemming from personal memories and associations, and their simplicity often belies the intricacy and labor intensity of their creation: there are both broad and barely perceptible lattices of lines. She also incorporates stains and drips into her work. One of her best-known series is comprised of blue drawings, dating from 2012. These feature in varying intensity ultramarine and cobalt blue gouache and watercolor, and are inspired by architectural blueprints.
