Zhu Lan’s very contemporary and abstract paintings are created using traditional methods, working with ink and watercolour on rice paper. Her gestural work explores, line, shape, value, scale and texture. Zhu Lan trained at the China People’s Liberation Army Academy of Art in Beijing, and the City University of Art (MFA) in Kyoto, Japan. Her work has been included in many exhibitions in North America, Europe and Asia, including the Beijing Fine Arts Museum, the China National Museum (Beijing), the Mingyuan Museum (Shanghai), Art Basel (Miami), the Chinese Ink Biennale (Guangzhou), the Contemporary Art Meseum of Valencia, the Times Art Museum (Beijing), the Zhangiakou Museum, the Maison de la Culture (Montreal), Galerie Shim no Uchi (Osaka), Madach Galeria (Budapest), Anderson Fine Art (Zurich), and Oeno Gallery (Bloomfield). Zhu Lan's work is also collected by a number of corporations, including the Four Seasons Hotel, General Electric and the Banque de France.
