Unframed, stretched canvas

San Francisco-based Zio Ziegler, 28, creates work that resembles tribal African tapestries where the rich tableau of colors and imagery converge into each other to form a chaotic yet vibrant aesthetic. Every inch of Ziegler’s canvases is covered with lines that make individual scenes that interact with neighboring vignettes to form a cohesive pattern. Ziegler’s lines are like that of a tattoo artist or an eager child with an errant hand. The movement is implied inCollapsed Still Life as if Ziegler’s thousands of doodles have refused to sit still and have collapsed onto one another in a yellow brick road that winds colorfully throughout the canvas.
