Garage Museum of Contemporary Art: Benefit Auction 2021
Founded in 2008 by Dasha Zhukova and Roman Abramovich, Garage is the first philanthropic institution in Russia to create a comprehensive public mandate for contemporary art.
Providing opportunities for dialogue, as well as the production of new work and ideas, the Museum’s extensive program of exhibitions, events, education, research, and publishing reflects current developments in Russian and international culture. Central to these activities is the Museum’s collection, which is the only public archive in the country related to the development of Russian contemporary art from the 1950s through to the present. On June 12, 2015, the museum moved to its first permanent home in Gorky Park, in the heart of Moscow.
Garage Endowment Fund is designed to provide the Museum with financial stability and to contribute to the making of exhibition, education, inclusive, research, and publishing projects. The support of donors has made Garage Endowment Fund the third largest museum endowment in Russia, with the annual return on investment in 2020 amounting to 23%. The investment income is spent on exhibition, inclusive, education, publishing, regional, and archive projects, as well as acquisitions for Garage Library and artist grants.
The building up of the endowment fund is a priority for Garage.
Garage will host the first charity auction in its history, featuring works by acclaimed Russian and international artists and held offline by Garage Patron international auction house Sotheby’s. The auction lots were selected together with artists who have worked with Garage or who are otherwise connected to the Museum. The event is organized in support of Garage Endowment Fund, which is designed to provide the Museum with long-term financial stability.
