MY PEOPLE.: Good Black Art Benefit Auction 2022

Good Black Art is proud to present MY PEOPLE. In celebration of the limitlessness of the Black network, artists Adrian Armstrong, Jewel Ham, Tae Ham, Mario Joyce and Laurena Finéus have come together to use an array of mediums and techniques to engage in visual dialogues across both generation and geography, telling a story of care. While each artist comes from a different location, the daily gestures, routines and practices that define the power of the Black collective are consistent in their artworks. This exhibition is curated by Good Black Art’s founder, Phillip Collins.

Like Good Black Art, this exhibition confronts the traditional relationship between a gallery, an artist, and a collector. We’ve got the need to build an ecosystem of support for emerging Black artists, so for this exhibition in partnership with NYC Culture Club, we are happy to collaborate with Artsy and Fairchain. Works will be available for bidding on Artsy, with digital certificates of title and authenticity backed by Fairchain. Additionally, Fairchain will ensure that artists are directed 10% in royalties in the case of future resales. Please see additional information on this in the lot description.

To ensure our efforts in uplifting the Black community continue beyond the exhibition, we’ll be donating 10% of show sale proceeds to Derrick Adams' The Last Resort Artist Retreat (TLRAR). The Residency is creating a feedback loop of investment in our community, using art as a form of therapy and education for young Black creatives in Baltimore.

Good Black Art, the five artists featured, and the exhibition itself, will be featured in an upcoming docu-series, giving the audience a behind the scenes look at what it means to be a Black emerging artist in the beginning stages of their career.

Good Black Art extends a special thanks to the participating artists, NYC Culture Club, Artsy, Fairchain, The Last Resort Artist Retreat Residency, our supportive community and all who support Black artists.
