SALON AFRICA: District Six Museum Benefit Auction 2022

This fall, Madlozi Art Gallery has partnered with over 20 celebrated contemporary visual artists from across the African diaspora to present SALON AFRICA: District Six Museum Benefit Auction 2022.

This exciting tribute exhibition and benefit auction uniquely honours and supports the District Six Museum in Cape Town, South Africa. The museum is known for its important sociopolitical legacy and cultural activism during the country’s racially segregated past—as well as its ongoing programming for communities and youth as a place of homecoming and cultural pride.

Bidding will open Thursday, October 20th at 12 p.m. EDT exclusively on Artsy, and will begin to close on Thursday, November 3rd at 12 p.m. EDT.

We invite collectors to explore this beautiful homage to African cultural identity, heritage, and art, with artists exploring themes around memory, home, and belonging. They create resonance with the museum and its rich history, outlook, and educational programming that counters economic and cultural displacement to enable a sense of home for creatives and diverse communities in the city.

As an entirely self-funded organisation for over 27 years, the District Six Museum is an independent voice aiming to make culture accessible as a right to all communities, regardless of socioeconomic status or background.

The generous contributions of collectors on Artsy will not only keep this landmark museum operational, but also enhance our ability to work with more young people and communities on the ground.

Your support allows the museum to retain our independence and grow the reach, impact, and scope of our research, while also extending our public engagement programmes, exhibitions, and education interventions over the next year, and many more to come.
