Abstract Art

At the turn of the 20th century, Western art began moving away from the faithful representation of nature as artists began experimenting with new forms of abstraction. Wassily Kandinsky began creating cosmic compositions, Anni Albers experimented with geometric patterns, and Joan Miró invented new biomorphic shapes. These pioneers paved the way for art movements like Abstract Expressionism in the 1950s and Minimalism in the ’60s, and they continue to inspire emerging artists today.
