ART X Lagos was launched as a dynamic platform to showcase and support the breadth of contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. The fair, founded in 2016 by Tokini Peterside-Schwebig, has since become a cornerstone of the African art sector. The first of its kind in West Africa, ART X Lagos is a unique cultural event that goes beyond the traditional bounds of an art fair.
For its ninth edition, the fair’s theme 'Promised Lands’ explores places, real or imagined, which one actively seeks out, in the hopes of greatly improving one’s situation. What questions might we ask on the road to new freedoms – social, political, philosophical, economic and artistic – as Nigerians and citizens of Africa? Where do we hope to go? And how do we hope to get there?
Joining the conversation will be a tightly curated selection of ten invited galleries, each of whom is making a unique contribution to the visual arts ecosystem across Africa and the Diaspora, enabling the exhibiting artists and gallerists to live out their roles as important voices in the ongoing global conversation.
The fair’s ambitious program will also include interactive exhibitions and special projects, dynamic live performances, and insightful discussions, in its efforts to foster cross-cultural dialogue.
The ninth edition fair will be held from 31st October to 3rd November 2024 at The Federal Palace in Lagos.
