About
Based in Düsseldorf, the gallery is devoted to create major exhibitions of modern and contemporary art since 1965.
The Galerie Hans Mayer was established in Esslingen in 1965. Its program started with a Josef Albers exhibition and became well known for its program, concentrating on Op Art, Contemporary Constructivism and Kinetic Art. From the 1970s onward, its program expanded continuously: 1969 Mayer was the first to show Andy Warhol in Düsseldorf and Nam June Paik joined the program 1989. The program expanded with a younger generation: Keith Haring, Michael Basquiat, Kenny Scharf, Robert Longo, Bill Beckley and Tony Oursler. C.O. Paeffgen, Markus Oehlen and Ben Willikens represent European painting; and artists such as Jürgen Klauke and Katharina Sieverding represent photography, performance and video art. 2015 the gallery launched its first solo-exhibition with the South-African artist Zander Blom.
