Album, Folio and Fan Formats

Originally in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean art, these smaller-format works on paper or silk were created in series and intended to be viewed laying flat. In the case of fan format, rounded compositions were sometimes mounted onto hand-held fan frames, or simply mounted as a picture.
