The Blue Rider
About
A translation of the German phrase Der Blaue Reiter, which denotes a group of artists active in Munich between 1911 to 1914—including most prominently Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc—who were united by an emphasis on conveying inner desires although embracing a pluralism of modes of expression. The Der Blaue Reiter Almanach, edited by Kandinsky and Marc and containing more than 140 reproductions of artworks and 14 major essays, was published in 1912 and became one of the most important books on art of the 20th century.
